Why are furries so desperate for characters. Any tv show and video game that comes along with an animal character in it, furries salivate over that character and draw thousands of pictures of it. Your build made some parts of the game super easy or really hard. Like if you didn't go into healing you could struggle in long dungeons.
And that you actively trained defense, evade, etc was fun.
You couldn't max everything in a single run. And if you level every element evenly you'd miss out of the top tier spells of each element.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/312520/Rain_World/I desperately want to like this game. The simulated ecosystem creates a living, breathing world for the player to interact with. The environments are just stunning. I love the sound design, the procedural animations are a joy to watch, and player movement is absolutely fantastic. As a fan of 2D/3D platformers, I can admire a game with deep movement mechanics, and Rainworld's platforming was the highlight of the game for me. However, after my time playing it, I simply can't recommend this game to anyone other than the most masochistic of gamers.
Firstly, if you're like me, lured in by the intrigue and desire to explore this harsh but beautiful alien world, you're sure to be very disappointed by the utter lack of any form of objective, direction or explanation. This game is opaque by design. After the first few minutes, your only guidance comes in the form of a character that often isn't present when needed, and will sometimes stare idly at the player, refusing to provide any useful advice. After leaving the starting region, most players learn to ignore the guide NPC, as it's cryptic messages become confusing distractions. There are small scraps of "lore" scattered throughout the world, but without giving any spoilers on how the story is discovered, it is a complete chore to find these pieces of lore and to piece together the story of Rainworld yourself. I relented and turned to Google to learn what the hell was I supposed to do or what was going on, and while I regret this a lot for the spoilers I received, it's hard to feel bad after 2 hours spent dying and wandering around the same 20 or 30 screens that make up the starting area.
My main issue with this game is not the difficulty itself, but specifically HOW IT HANDLES difficulty. The player ascends their karma level (on a scale of 1-5) after eating enough food and surviving for a "cycle" which is kinda like an in-game day. A certain karma level is required to enter adjacent regions. Upon death, your karma drops by 1 level.
77b2f94b No.3702229
You won't know enemy behavior without long and careful observation - death is just how you learn. Despite embracing a trial-and-error gameplay loop, death is punished severely You can try to "git gud" but you WILL die, as almost every single animal will kill you in one attack. Death spirals are common, where the player simply can't find enough food or deal with threats effectively in order to bring their karma level up enough to progress On top of this, enemy spawns are random every time you respawn. On one cycle, a room could be filled with 5 bristling monsters ready to tear you apart, and after you die to them, they are simply gone. To make matters worse, despite being a game about exploration, exploration is punished harshly. Every cycle is accompanied by an instant-kill timer that is random in length, and you will often be caught out in the open as you flounder around the world for the next checkpoint,
once again losing up to 20 minutes of progress. Rainworld is swift to deal punishment to the player for attempting to interact with its playspace and unique wildlife. No matter how you choose to define this games genre, whether it's a "survival platformer" or "Metroidvania," nothing will change the abysmal way in which it handles difficulty, forcing a slow and cautious playstyle that will often fail to prevent death and loss of progress regardless.
I understand what the game attempts to achieve. You are not a hero - you are a weak little creature at the bottom of the food chain, in a world that cares nothing for you and won't change in the slightest whether you live or die. To this effect, Rainworld is incredibly effective, and I don't think I've ever seen a game built so well around the unfairness of life and survival. However, quite obviously, this creates an inherently unfun videogame, where death is often random and unavoidable. 20-30 minutes of progress can be lost by an enemy falling atop you from above the screen, and the mysteries of the game will elude the casual gamer that refuses to turn to the internet. If you can deal with this intended unfairness, then I think you can get a lot out of this game. However, if you want to experience this game and are worried it will frustrate you and drive you away, I would recommend just watching a lets play or reading the wiki.
